UW Theme release v2.15.0

Release date:

This release includes new support for displaying event costs in the UW Events plugin and improved social sharing images for UW People profiles. Additional updates include accessibility improvements, support for an additional ArcGIS embed URL, design and usability enhancements, and several developer-focused updates.

Accessibility updates

Improved the editing experience for individual People pages by removing the default Heading and Separator blocks that display below an individual’s details and contact information. This change helps prevent authors from accidentally publishing empty headings, making profile pages more accessible. The update was made in response to accessibility feedback.

Design and usability improvements

  • Fixed an issue where the UW Hero Carousel block navigation gradient would appear when only one slide was present.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the UW Story Slider block to automatically receive focus when opening a page in the editor.
  • Fixed an issue where mini-bar colors would become out of sync with heading text colors inside Cover blocks, improving visual consistency.
  • Fixed an issue where excerpts would run words together when source content contained line breaks, improving how content previews appear throughout UW Theme, UW Events plugin, and UW People plugin.
  • Reduced padding in People listings on smaller screens so that related content appears closer together and is easier to scan.

Added support for event costs

Event listings can now display event cost information, making it easier for visitors to understand registration fees and other event-related costs before deciding to attend.

Improved event date and timezone handling

Improved event date and timezone handling across UW Events, helping ensure event information displays more consistently across sites and time zones.

UW People plugin updates

Improved support for social sharing images used by People profiles by setting an individual’s profile image as the Open Graph (og:image) image. This helps social media platforms, search engines, and other services display a more relevant preview image when a profile page is shared or indexed.

ArcGIS embeds

Added support for embedding ArcGIS content from the uw-mad.maps.arcgis.com domain in the UW Embed Blocks plugin, expanding the supported ArcGIS URLs that can be used on UW Theme sites.

Developer updates

  • Added filter support for the Custom HTML block, allowing developers to more easily enable the WordPress Custom HTML block in self-hosted UW Theme implementations.
